A Target shopper has vowed never to return after a staff encounter left him stunned.
“I’m no longer going into a Target self-checkout,” TikTok creator skylouieee said in a recent video.
He explained that he made a “quick trip” to Target to grab some pain medication and a bottle of Gatorade.
As he packed his bags and headed for the exit, he says a store employee stopped him, asking if he had paid for the drink.
TikTok content creator skylouieee complained of his experience with a Target worker
The Target employee allegedly claimed they didn’t see him scan the Gatorade and insisted he speak with the team manager.
“I’m just trying to go home, I’m not trying to start any nonsense,” skylouieee explained to his followers.
‘I showed them the receipt and they ended up letting me go.
‘He just wanted to start something because he was bored.
‘I’m just sticking to Walmart from now on,’ he concluded on the video.
‘Okay it doesn’t matter if they saw you ring up the Gatorade or not, if the receipt says you paid for the Gatorade then you paid for it,’ one viewer wrote in the comments under the video.
‘That’s crazy. They are usually laidback at target,’ another wrote.
Meanwhile, Walmart has introduced a creative solution to combat shoplifting at its self-checkouts.
The retailer’s new feature allows customers to simply pass an item over the scanner, which registers it without requiring a visible barcode.
This technology works with Walmart’s Great Value products, like graham crackers, chocolate bars, and croissant sandwiches.
Invisible barcodes, introduced in 2019 through Walmart’s partnership with Digimarc, are printed across the entire product. Although invisible to the eye, these barcodes are easily detected by self-checkout scanners.
The incident involving skylouieee allegedly took place at a Target self-checkout.
This has not stopped some very brazen shoppers from continuing to shoplift.
The incident allegedly occurred at a Target self-checkout
A Walmart customer recently sparked outrage after filming herself shoplifting at a self-checkout – and posting it online.
The woman, who goes by Nesha on TikTok, posted a video of herself pretending to scan items at a self-checkout.
She demonstrated the ‘fake scan’ tactic used by shoplifters at self-checkouts.
The thieves scan some items but not others – hoping staff won’t notice. If they are caught, they pretend it was an accident.
But Nesha gets instant karma after trying to steal a backpack – unaware of new technology Walmart has to catch crooks like her.
She was caught by a worker – and given a two year ban from Walmart stores. She may also face police action.
