A 32-year-old tenant is under arrest for a Monday night shooting at the Econo Lodge in Fredonia

Luis R. Kuilan-Del Hoyo faces a second-degree assault charge.

The Fredonia Police Department received a 911 call about the shooting at around 8:20 p.m., according to a press release from Chief David Price.

“Officers arrived, and located a man that had been shot in the leg, and a tourniquet had been applied to control bleeding,” Price wrote. “The victim was attended to by Fredonia Fire and Rescue, subsequently being transported to the Erie County Medical Center Trauma unit for critical care.”

The chief continued, “Following information provided by witnesses, investigational information was immediately passed on to north county law enforcement agencies. A suspect vehicle was shortly thereafter located nearby containing three occupants. Members of the Fredonia Police Department worked throughout the early morning hours on the investigation.”

The investigation led to Kulian-Del Hoyo’s arrest. He was transported to Centralized Arraignment and held in Mayville pending arraignment.

“The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending,” Price stated.

The Fredonia Police Department was assisted by the Dunkirk Police Department, the New York State Police, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office (including the Sheriff’s K9 unit), and the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.

“Anyone with additional information regarding this investigation should contact the Fredonia Police Department at 716-679-1531,” Price said.

The Fredonia shooting was the fifth in five days. One was in Dunkirk last Wednesday night and three more shootings took place in Jamestown on Friday.
