4 Days of Family Fun at Cotai Expo: Sands Shopping Carnival Now Open with Free Admission

Sands China’s annual signature event, the 2024 Sands Shopping Carnival, commenced on Thursday at The Venetian® Macao, marked by an opening ceremony attended by prominent figures from the government, finance, business, and community sectors.

Distinguished guests officiated the opening ceremony and toured the carnival, which is hosted at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo. Among the notable attendees were representatives from various sectors, highlighting the significance of the event.

Sands China Ltd. Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Wilfred Wong visited the BOC Smart Kids Presents: Little Master Chef Workshop, one of the many engaging activities at the carnival.

The Sands Shopping Carnival is free to attend and is the largest sale event in Macao. It runs daily from noon to 10 p.m. from July 18 to 21 at Cotai Expo Halls A and B, with a special invitation-only preview session on the first day.

Dr. Wilfred Wong stated, “The Sands Shopping Carnival is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year. Over these five years, Sands China has maintained a steadfast partnership with the Macao SAR Government, the Macao Chamber of Commerce, and other supporting entities, providing relentless support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through this platform without seeking any financial return. Together, we have successfully created nearly 2,800 exhibition booths over the years. This year also marks the momentous 20th anniversary of Sands Macao. As a long-standing pillar of Macao’s business landscape, we have deep ties with the local community. Our commitment to supporting local small and medium-sized enterprises is unwavering, and we embrace the philosophy of growing with small and medium-sized enterprises Year after year, we have organised the Sands Shopping Carnival, fostering mutual assistance and collaboration across various sectors in Macao.”

Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, emphasized the importance of shopping in tourism, noting that 48 percent of visitor expenditure in Macao during the first quarter of this year was on shopping. She highlighted the need for the retail service industry to continuously introduce products that cater to customers’ preferences and provide meticulous and personalized services to enhance the overall travel experience of tourists.

U Kin Cho, vice president of the board of directors of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, praised Sands China for its commitment to supporting the growth of SMEs through the Sands Shopping Carnival. He noted that the event has been a resounding success, attracting over 100,000 participants annually and becoming one of the largest discount sale events in Macao.

The Sands Shopping Carnival provides a free business platform for local small and medium-sized enterprises and Sands retailers, helping them create more business opportunities while offering a fun weekend destination for residents and tourists. With more than 580 booths, including a record-breaking 325 booths dedicated to local SME suppliers, the carnival features nine exhibition zones across 21,000 square meters: Sands retailers, household products, parenting and family, gourmet and wine, food court, green living, Macao cultural and creative, play and fun, and Macao specialties and souvenirs. The event showcases over 260,000 products, including special daily MOP 1 items for shoppers.

The carnival also features free parking and complimentary shuttle buses running routes to various locations throughout the city.

Highlights of the carnival include:

  • Over 580 booths with more than 260,000 products and huge discounts of up to 90 percent off.
  • BOC Smart Kids Presents: Little Master Chef Workshop, a free activity for children led by Sands China’s food and beverage team.
  • ICBC ePay Presents: National Essence: Hanfu Styling Contest, with a competition for adults from the Greater Bay Area.
  • Bank of Communications Presents: Rising Stars: 2024 Kids Talent Showdown, providing a platform for children to showcase their talents.
  • A food court with a variety of regional and international choices.

The 2024 Sands Shopping Carnival is organized by Sands China Ltd. and co-organized by the Macao Chamber of Commerce, with support from the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Macao Government Tourism Office, and the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute. It is sponsored by BOC Macau, ICBC (Macau), Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. Macau Branch, and BNU.
