According to experienced sport fishers, Lake Erie is known as the “Walleye Capital of the World.” This is likely the reason why Meals on Wheels Father’s Day Fishing Charter Raffle has been considered such a hot ticket for a day of sun and fishing fun on Lake Erie since 2018.
The idea for this “fun”raiser began with Meals on Wheels volunteer Nathan Queer, who wanted to do something to make sure that everyone who needs meals gets them.
His family owns Westfield Charters, and he is an integral part of its operation. As such, he gets to accompany the fishing raffle winners on each and every charter.
A warm, sunny August morning awaited five Fredonia Beaver Club members as they headed out on the four-hour charter they had won. Equipped with bait, fishing gear and ice (all provided by Westfield Charters), the group was able to reel in 15 good-sized walleye.
“It was a great day to be out on the water,” said Jim Christy, Beaver Club board member. “We all had a really good time with Captain Rick too.”
“We are grateful to Nathan and his family for this generous donation,” said Deb Pacos, Executive Director. “The opportunity to showcase one of the many attractions our community has to offer is both special and meaningful.”
Westfield Charters is an insured, full service fishing charter available for full or half day trips on Eastern Lake Erie. Groups of 1-6 anglers enjoy a safe and memorable experience as they fish for (and catch!) trophy Walleye, Lake Trout, Perch and Steelhead.
