From the red-and-yellow restaurant chain to a new venue that lets people sling neon paint, it has been a colorful week for business news in the Hub City.
Earlier this month, I had never heard of a splatter paint room, which is a venue that allows guests to let their creativity fly with paint and usually involves slinging paint at a canvas and all over a room.
On Wednesday, I spoke with Shawna Eaker and David Eaker, the owners of 806 Splatter, 5020 50th St., Suite 102. Prior to the business’ opening on Friday, they told me about this vibrant venture that will allow people to let the paint fly.
“I think Lubbock really needed another place for birthday parties,” Shawna said. “It’s hard to come up with something that everybody hasn’t already done 10 times.”

I also had the opportunity to speak with Katie Hughes Mallory, the director of operations for five of Lubbock’s Wienerschnitzel locations. Her father, Lowry Hughes, is the franchise owner.
“I don’t remember ever not being around Wienerschnitzel,” Mallory said. “My dad worked for the parent company basically my entire life. The wiener dog was at my first birthday. We actually served the mini corndogs at my wedding.”
During the interview, Mallory spoke about expansion plans, community involvement and her family’s ties to the brand.
This week’s closings included Chez Sami in Wolfforth and Broadway Fish & More, 1702 E. Broadway. The week’s new businesses were 806 Splatter, 5020 50th St., Suite 102, and L&W Supply at 312 SE Loop 289.
