Lubbock business news includes Slaton siblings, Brazilian food, 2025 outlook

Must read

Hello A-J readers!

This week’s news saw updates on a Brazilian steakhouse, an in-depth feature on two Slaton siblings’ newest business venture and an outlook into businesses coming next year. Here are the highlights.

On Tuesday, Mateo Rosiles and I took a trip to Slaton to learn the story behind The Combine – Commons on the Square, 136 W. Garza St. The owners, a pair of siblings who want to see the only town square in the county blossom, told us about how things have been and their future plans.

“People are really blown away that, in Slaton, you can find some of the things we have here,” said Jessica Kelly, co-owner with her brother, Adam Behnke. “And I’m like, why not? We deserve this.”

Since we were there, we decided we had to try some food and drinks. I was impressed with the tiramisu, which is my all-time favorite dessert, and the Poinsettia mocktail. In my opinion, the prices are pretty fair for all you get, the food is delicious and I love the non-alcoholic offerings. I’ll likely go again, and it is going to be a place I recommend in the future.

For recent business openings, Lubbock saw three openings and one upcoming:

  • Salata Salad Kitchen, 7503 82nd St., Suite 100, opened on Monday.
  • Flamencos Tostaderia Y Taqueria, 4416 50th St., opened on Tuesday.
  • Neighbors Emergency Center, 4337 50th St., opened Thursday.
  • Ponto Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse, 5107 82nd St., #109, will open on Monday, Dec. 23.

Rounding out the weekend, we published an article on the more than 20 new businesses that are, so far, expected to open in 2025. From salad restaurants to Nordstrom Rack, the article explores the when, where and what we know of these upcoming spaces.

Going into the next few weeks, get ready for the end-of-year articles. For the business side of things, that will include a recap of which 40+ business closed in 2024 and why, all the 120-plus new businesses, an analysis of trends and a look at the top six local business items that caused the most buzz. I’ve also already started booking interviews into 2025, so more information will come soon on those.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
