Lubbock business news includes Latin American restaurant, bank awards, burglaries

Must read

Hello A-J readers!

We have food news from Wolfforth, banking in Lubbock and an update in the string of burglaries that took place at local businesses. Here are the highlights from the week.

A new family-owned restaurant opened in the former Elotes location in Wolfforth this weekend. Hey Vos Latin Restaurant, 602 Donald Preston Drive, opened on Saturday to offer the flavors of Latin America to the community.

“They’re going to love all of the food, because we are trying to pick up all the famous plates from every country, so they’re all pretty good,” said Jorge Varela, speaking for the owners, who are his mother and sister. “A lot of the dishes will become favorites for a lot of people.”

Two Lubbock banks made the 2024 Best Banks to Work For list, created by American Banker and Best Companies Group. Peoples Bank, No. 6 on the list, and First United Bank, listed 86, earned spots on the list of 90 banks.

On a different side of business-related news, Lubbock police revealed new details on a series of burglaries that hit businesses on 82nd Street and Indiana Avenue on Nov. 4. The number of impacted businesses went up to seven, and photos of two masked people entering a business were released to the public. Officials asked for anyone with information to contact the Crime Line, 806-741-1000.

As for next week, we are in the heart of the holiday coverage season. That means most of the A-J crew is hard at work on various projects that I can’t go into detail on yet. All I can say is keep reading. Also, if you know of any restaurants offering Thanksgiving meal packages or day-of meals, let us know at lub-newmedia@lubbockonline.com.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
