Local flower and chocolate shops prepare for Valentine’s Day rush

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The day of love is inching closer and closer. Many businesses are preparing for the holiday rush as it is a “last minute” holiday for some.

When it comes to the perfect flower bouquet, there is a recipe to follow. At Always in Bloom in south city St. Louis it could be considered a recipe of love for this Valentine’s Day.

“We will have a lot of variety. We will have tulips, lilies and even carnations and daisies. Most people think just roses, red roses, a dozen red roses, but we try to get them to branch out to some other things,” said Colleen Lindsay, owner.

Lindsay said over the next few days they will be working nonstop.

“We will be here pretty much every night and Friday until we run out of roses,” she said.

But she isn’t the only one who will experience a holiday rush. The owner of Bijoux Chocolates in Webster Groves, Meggie Mobley, said she is preparing for the week ahead too.

“Most of the time the actual week of, if not the day before and day of Valentine’s Day are the biggest days,” she said.

Mobley said there is a a lot that goes into her handcrafted chocolate, taking two to three days to make.

“So we hand paint them so they are very shiny and colorful,” she said.

Mobley said that is what makes them extra special.

And for Lindsay, this is her 32nd Valentine’s Day at Always in Bloom and somethings never change.

“Well realistically most men haven’t even thought about valentines day yet,” she said.

So that is a reminder to everyone, to place your orders now.

“It makes it less stressful for us,” Lindsay said.

Think of it as a Valentine’s Day gift to the ones helping to make your special someone feel the love.

“That is the goal,” Lindsay said.
