On April 27, the Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club hosted a beach sweep cleanup day at Wright Park Beach in Dunkirk.
The event was part of the greater Adopt-A-Beach program sponsored by The Alliance for the Great Lakes which is a nonpartisan nonprofit working across the region to protect the Great Lakes.
It seemed at first that the rains would put a stop to the event, but the weather cleared a bit and the 23 volunteers were able to work for just over an hour and picked up 110 pounds of trash from the beach.
The Lions club had invited area residents to participate and volunteers from Americold, Brocton High School, Brocton Girl Scouts, a local Boy Scout, and an International Student from Fredonia State joined the Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club members to participate in this effort.
