Legislative Priorities and Infrastructure Projects

Must read

Margate outlined its legislative priorities for the 2025
Florida State Legislative Session, urging Governor Ron DeSantis and state
lawmakers to support key initiatives that impact the community. Among the top
concerns are infrastructure funding, municipal governance, and the protection
of local revenues.

Margate is seeking state funding for critical local projects
to enhance stormwater management and wastewater treatment. The city has
requested:

$500,000 for Stormwater Infrastructure Assessment and
Rehabilitation – This project aims to improve drainage capacity, mitigate flood
risks, and protect the environment while ensuring the city’s stormwater systems
remain resilient.

$700,000 for Wastewater Digester 2 Rehabilitation – Upgrades
to the Wastewater Treatment Plant’s Digester Tank 2 will enhance efficiency,
extend infrastructure lifespan, and ensure compliance with regulatory
standards. These improvements will help prevent system failures, reduce
maintenance costs, and protect public health.

Margate supports legislation that strengthens municipal
authority, allowing the city to regulate development, zoning, and short-term
rentals. The city is advocating for:

Full funding of the Sadowski State and Local Housing Trust
Funds for affordable housing.

Regulations ensuring short-term rental properties comply
with licensing, insurance, and safety requirements.

New or amended ordinances allowing municipalities to manage
short-term vacation rentals.
