Legends Tour appoints new head of comms

Must read

The Legends Tour has appointed experienced journalist and broadcaster James Haddock as its new Head of Press and Communications.

The 49-year-old former Sky Sports Golf presenter will help to develop and drive the Tour’s message and brand to established golf markets and a wider audience to engage the global golf fan base.

Haddock has already started working with the Legends Tour and brings more than 30 years of experience in UK sports journalism with him. He spent more than 20 years working for Sky Sports covering a variety of sports with Sky Sports News before specialising in golf from 2008.

A respected journalist, Haddock has worked in the UK media sector since 1994 and has been part of several award-winning teams across the written, radio and tv formats.

He is already a well-known figure among the Legends Tour membership, having worked with many during his time working on golf with Sky Sports, and he is a welcome addition to the Legends Tour team as the Tour looks to expand its global reach.

Speaking about his appointment, Haddock said: “I am delighted to have joined up with the Legends Tour as they look to make a big move within the golf marketplace over the next few years. For me, getting to reconnect with a lot of players with whom I have worked over the past two decades, is a real pleasure – it’s like an old school reunion, but better!

“The Legends Tour has a stellar list of stars – the players are the centrepiece and the greatest asset of the Tour, I am thrilled about working with them and telling their stories. I am excited about what lies ahead and how I can help the Legends Tour to build on their early successes and grow in stature. When you look over the past few years, it is already on the upward curve – a rapid rise, and I am hoping to play my part in helping that to continue.”

Keith Mitchell, Chief Marketing Officer for the Legends Tour, said: “James is a strong asset for us to have on board as we embark on a period of expansion. We already have a schedule which features 20 events across four continents and with a prize fund of more than €18m.

“James’ ability to get to the heart of the stories, to build a bond with the players, and ensure our media partners are getting what they need from us, is all part of the development of this Tour. His addition to our team helps us to grow and to deliver on our long-term vision as a truly global Tour and to extend our message to all golf fans in new and engaging ways. Much has already been achieved, but there is plenty more to come!”
