With several BGE rate hikes in the past few years, residents continue to express frustration over rising gas and electric bills.
FOX45’s Jessica Babb has followed the state’s energy crisis and joined In Depth with Mikenzie Frost to discuss the latest updates.
“According to the Maryland Office of the People’s Council, BGE’s delivery rates have tripled since 2010, which is a cost that’s being pushed onto customers,” Babb said. “While BGE says it’s a needed expense for updating their infrastructure, Lawmakers are pushing back, trying to take action for customers.”

Today, lawmakers held a Nuclear Energy Meeting where they discussed potential solutions, which include the Ratepayer Protection Act.
“The sponsor of the bill, Delegate Embry, getting a lot of pushback. While she says the bill would modify a 2013 law, making utilities provide more justification for the upgrades they’re doing and costs they’re passing on to the consumers, some lawmakers on the House Economic Matters Committee felt the bill was a way to get us to move away from natural gas as an energy source,” Babb said.
