Kim and Menendez Visit Gateway Project Sites, Highlight Historic Infrastructure Investments – Insider NJ

Must read

On Monday, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) and Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08) met with Gateway Development Commission officials and toured project sites throughout New Jersey’s 8th District in Weehawken and North Bergen.

The Gateway Project, funded in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, represents the largest investment in mass transit infrastructure in the nation’s history. The tour included stops at staging areas, fan plants, and haul routes around the future Hudson Tunnel, funding for which was finalized under a Full Funding Grant Agreement last month. In total, more than $12 billion in funding for Gateway will be provided by the federal government.

“The Gateway Project is one of the most critical infrastructure projects in the nation and will help secure reliable transit and economic security for tens of millions of people and countless businesses throughout the east coast. I’m glad I was able to join Congressman Rob Menendez to see the progress up close at sites in Weehawken and North Bergen,” said Congressman Kim. “It’s not an exaggeration to say that this project will have an impact for many generations to come, and it’s vital that we secure the funds and resources needed to ensure its success.”

“The Gateway Project will be transformative for New Jersey and the entire region,” said Congressman Rob Menendez. “This historic investment will create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, make progress on our commitment to combat climate change and create a more resilient infrastructure. In addition, this project will deliver much-needed relief to New Jerseyans who have been negatively impacted by our outdated and under supported mass transit system. I’m grateful to have a partner in Congressman Kim and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure that this project is successfully completed.”

Since helping pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021, Congressman Kim has prioritized seeing that its funding is allocated to critical infrastructure needs in New Jersey, including the Hudson Tunnel Project, addressing Amtrak and NJ Transit delays, and a variety of environmental, water, and transportation infrastructure projects to look after the health and safety of communities across the state. Congressman Kim is the Ranking Member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee, and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
