Just Browsing: What’s New at The Frankie Shop With Vogue’s Executive Shopping Director

Must read

The Frankie Shop’s 100 Stanton Street store in Manhattan’s Lower East Side is so iconic. I remember it when it first opened, it was tiny, and employees had to go down the stairs into the basement to get to the stockroom. The fact that Gaëlle Drevet was able to grow it into this bigger renovated space is incredible—and shopping here now is such an elevated experience.

I stopped in to find some pieces that would work Fashion Month and the transition to fall. I immediately loved how everything was merchandised by color. You could just see how the pieces would look together very quickly. There’s no internal debate of figuring out how to style X with Y. It was a very straightforward shopping experience, which I appreciated.

The brand has so many cult-favorite pieces, especially outerwear and tailoring, but interestingly enough I never bought into the tailoring—something I discovered this time around. In addition to the separates, I loved all the sheer pieces for layering. Below, a few key items I tried on at The Frankie Shop, how I’d style them, and some finishing touches to complete the look.

Sheer Delights

I’m the kind of person who, once I’ve found a style that works, I then buy it in multiples. The sheer Peri skirt is a good example of that. I already have it in white and black, and then I tried it in burgundy and loved it, too. She’s a tough one to style though. There’s definitely the “what underwear do I wear” component, so I played with layers: I paired it with a slightly sheer trench coat and white T-shirt. I also tried it on with a really long blazer.

Burgundy Is the New Black

I wear a lot of black in general, but it’s kind of nice to come off the back of summer and not necessarily land there. I appreciate fall neutrals that don’t feel loud, and burgundy is one of them. The Frankie Shop has so many great burgundy pieces right now. I wanted to try a tonal look with the Peri skirt, so I teamed it up with a matching crackle top that was a bit longer, which covered just enough.

Easy Weekend Wears

I love anything oversized. This tank top will be the hardest working thing in my wardrobe. I can just tell because it’s just so easy. And I love a wide-leg jean. The proportions are slouchy and easy, like you didn’t even have to try.

Light Tailoring

All of The Frankie Shop’s light tailoring is great for transitional dressing. I’m not really as much of a dress girl, but co-ords achieve the same thing. It’s a full look—one and done. You don’t need to think about it when you get up in the morning. I can easily wear these trousers with just a T-shirt—they look just as good with or without the blazer for the office. For chillier days, I’d wrap a sweater around my neck and top it off with a coat. I love how these pieces have the versatility to move through different weathers and scenarios. Very rarely do I do a full look other than tailoring—and even then, most of my blazers I wear with jeans—but this was just too easy to not.

I’ve never turned down a head-to-toe grey look, so I loved this color—it’s more of a chalky, green gray color. I wanted to bring in a pop of color with my shoes, so I did that with red sandals. This is definitely a Fashion Week look. Swapping out the vest for easily layered sweaters helps bring it into fall.
