With so much fashion existing online, there’s something refreshing about trying pieces on in-store after eyeing them first on a little screen. Enter Just Browsing: We’re taking you into the fitting room as we preview the newest collections from some of our favorite high-street brands and contemporary labels. We’ll get into fabric and quality, fit and feel, and so much more as we make our way through the shop floor. Happy scrolling (and strolling)!
You don’t have to know me well to know that my wardrobe doesn’t consist of much color—my palette is pretty limited to black, blue (only in denim form), neutrals and well, burgundy. So you can imagine my delight when Sabato De Sarno debuted his new creative direction in September 2023 his new creative direction and decreed burgundy, or “Rosso Ancora,” as the new house hue. And now, it’s not just the hue of Gucci, but of the entire season; fall & resort saw a plethora of designers tapping into this rich shade but few have mastered it quite like Gucci. It was the first thing I was on the lookout for when I visited the Wooster Street store in SoHo, New York to browse the new resort collection.
The store is impressive—and a great fusion of character between the space itself (a 155-year-old building that was a former pencil factory) and De Sarno’s sleek, contemporary vision. The perfect example of these two things coming together? The exposed brick against chrome rails and display units, but it was the Cassina armchairs that got me. If I could have taken these home with me, I would have. Anyway, I digress! We’re here to shop clothes not interiors so here’s a breakdown of my must-have items that are perfect for the holiday season and beyond.
The Cinched Waist
There has been an almost unanimous agreement within the Vogue Shopping team that we’re all craving fitted blazers. For so long, masculine, oversized shapes have dominated my wardrobe and as someone who’s quite petite, I don’t know how flattering that actually is for my shape (pleased I am having this realization after years of wearing oversized!) so for now I’m into shrunken, belted and double breasted styles that feel decidedly more flattering.
First-up, this rich satin double-breasted style. I love the sharpness of the tailoring, when I say it was the perfect fit, I mean it. The size I’m wearing is an IT38 with no adjustments needed. I styled it with slim black pants but love the idea of pairing this back with denim and a white T-shirt. This is your forever blazer.
