Indie App Spotlight: ‘GroceryBot’ is an all-in-one planner for grocery shopping – 9to5Mac

Must read

Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and would like your app featured, get in contact.

GroceryBot is a new iPhone app that aims to simplify your grocery planning and shopping experience, making it a one stop shop for meal prep and food planning.

Key GroceryBot features

The app calls itself the world’s smartest grocery list, and I’d say that description is pretty accurate. GroceryBot has many cool features to make your grocery experience easier, including the following:

  • Automatic categorization of individual grocery items
  • AI assistant to ask questions about groceries and plan meals
  • Ability to import items using a Recipe URL
  • Expiration reminders, reducing food waste
  • Nutrition Info for individual items, as well as note taking
  • Family Sharing via QR code
  • Bundles, a premade list of items that you can add to your grocery list as needed
  • Barcode scanning and Voice Input to add groceries
  • and more!

Personal highlights

One nice feature of GroceryBot is that you can sort your grocery items by store. When you first open the app, you’ll be able to add your favorite grocery stores that you shop at. If you prefer to buy certain items at one store because they’re cheaper for example, or if you have a particular store you go to for a specialty item, you can easily sort these apart in GroceryBot. There’s a tab for all groceries, and then tabs for each store.

Additionally, you can chat with the built in AI chat, which the developer claims is privacy focused. With the built in assistant, you can ask questions regarding meal ideas, or tell it to add a week’s worth of a certain item to your list. It’s a neat little feature, especially if you don’t really have anything particular in mind when shopping, or want to mix things up a bit.

The last cool feature is Bundles. This allows you to import a recipe from a URL, and all of the required ingredients for that meal will be grouped together in the app. Afterwards, you can just tap on the bundle, and add the group of ingredients to your list.

Download GroceryBot

GroceryBot is available for free on the App Store with the core features, and you can subscribe to GroceryBot+ for $2.99/month or $19.99/year for the full experience, including the AI chat feature. You’ll need an iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The app is also available on Mac and Apple Vision Pro as an iPhone app, although no native versions are available for these platforms.
