Amazon Prime Day 2024 is here and this popular shopping event always presents an opportunity to take advantage of some incredible deals. But all Amazon.com products and sales are not made equal.

Read what some shopping experts recommend you focus on (and avoid) during the annual Prime Day online shopping event.

1. Personal Wellness Products

If you’ve had your eye on certain personal wellness and household products, this could be the perfect time to consider buying them.

“Prime Day shoppers should pay special attention to quality personal wellness products this year like air purifiers and carafe water filtration products,” said Vipin Porwal, founder and consumer expert at Smarty. “Expect average discounts on high end models 20-30% off including summer savings on filters and accessories.”

2. Electronics

If you’re looking to upgrade your personal tech items and gadgets, Prime Day is one of the best times to lock in sales for smartphones, smart home devices, cutting-edge tech accessories and more.

Bhawna Balchandani, founder of Penny Calling Penny, said when shopping for Amazon Prime Day, personal tech items are her favorite product category to explore.

“Who doesn’t want their favorite earbuds or speakers that are now 20-70% cheaper?” said Balchandani. “Prime Day is when some of the best brands (Samsung, Fitbit, Apple and more) offer slashed prices on much-needed devices and electronics, so it’s certainly a way to get more value for your money.”

In addition to watching popular tech brands, Balchandani recommends that shoppers also pay attention to Amazon-owned brands in the tech category to lock in the best discounts.

3. Back-to-School Items

Prime Day is strategically placed right before the back-to-school season, making it an excellent time to save on school supplies and clothing for kids.

“Keep an eye out for deals on backpacks, shoes and apparel from popular brands and expect to save now and get more choices vs. deals offered later in the summer when these items have been heavily picked through,” said Porwal.

4. Beauty and Personal Care Items

This is also a great time to refresh your wardrobe and beauty routine with deals on designer clothing and popular beauty brands according to Alaina Nicole, who makes YouTube videos about affordable fashion and shopping tips.

Nicole recommends shoppers look into beauty tools and accessories as well as practical personal care items like 14-bar Dove Beauty Bar pack which is currently 33% off as well as Dove’s Dry Shampoo which is less than $10.

5. Kitchen Essentials and Kitchen Gadgets

If you’ve been eyeing that high-end blender or need new cookware, Prime Day is your chance to get quality home and kitchen items at a fraction of the cost.

“I’ve become obsessed with one-pot dinners and sometimes with those recipes you cook something on the stove and need to transport it to the oven, so I just got a frying pan from Amazon with a removable handle,” said Emily Norris in a recent YouTube video where she called out some of the best Amazon prime deals.

In her video, Norris recommended that shoppers review sales offers for kitchen gadgets large and small ranging from onion choppers to slow cookers.

Tips For Maximizing Amazon Prime Day Savings

Prepare ahead of time by creating a wishlist of items you’re interested in. This way, you can quickly check if they go on sale.

“Parents should look for back-to-school items that will go on sale in a few weeks,” said Andrea Slaydon, a producer at KPRC Houston. “Things you’re already going to need to buy like snacks, drink mixes, socks and other necessary items could also be on sale right now.”

Trae Bodge, a prominent shopping expert, said you can add items to your Amazon cart early to better track if the prices change over time. Bodge also recommends leveraging tools like Yahoo Shopping, Google Shopping and CamelCamelCamel to track price history and ensure you’re getting the best deal.

  • Consider Early-Bird Deals and Lightning Sales

Some of the best deals are available for a limited time. Keep an eye on early-bird deals and lightning sales to snag the best prices.” Add items to your Amazon cart and look for the red banners that say ‘limited time deal with Prime’ or ‘lightning deal’ because this will help you easily narrow down which items on your list have certain offers to give you savings,” said Rich DeMuro, a reporter at Los Angeles’ KTLA 5.
