How Manchester United ended the year with a dismal Premier League defeat to Newcastle United

Must read

Ruben Amorim has spoken to Sky Sports following his Manchester United side’s defeat to Newcastle, including taking off Joshua Zirkzee after just 32 minutes of the game to strengthen his midfield — with the hosts already 2-0 down at Old Trafford.

Here’s what Amorim said:

💬 “You have to think about the team and also sometimes about the player, because I felt he was suffering and we started to have more ball with Kobbie Mainoo, but it was really, really, really tough for me to do that.

“I talked with Josh about it because it’s important to express the message that I’m always thinking about the team.

“It’s important to know the players and I know Josh is a really good guy. I understand he’s in a bad way. Even (Harry) Maguire has had some tough moments (here), but that is life in every professional.

“So we will support Josh and continue because like I said, Newcastle were the better team. It was not just Josh.”
