The Home Panel that debuted on the Google TV Streamer is next coming to the Chromecast with Google TV if you join the Public Preview program.
The Home Panel appears in Google TV Quick Settings, and matches the Favorites tab in the Google Home mobile app. It lets you access: Lights, Thermostats, Locks, Cameras, Plugs, Vacuums, TVs, and Speakers.
Last month, Google said the Home Panel is coming to more Google TV devices, like AI screensavers. The first expansion appears to be the Chromecast with Google TV if you’re enrolled in the Google Home Public Preview program.
From the Home app on Android or iOS, go to the Settings tab, scroll down for “Public Preview” at the bottom, and join.
Other “eligibility” requirements include:
- You need to be an owner or member of a Home in the Google Home app that your Google TV profile is a part of.
- Kids profiles are not supported for the home panel.
- Your Google TV device must be in standard mode (not apps-only, or basic mode).
- You need to opt in to the home panel on your Google TV.
- There must be at least one smart home device aside from your Google TV in your Home.
As of today, only the Google TV Streamer and Chromecast with Google TV are listed as eligible devices.
We’re not yet seeing the Home Panel on our Chromecast with Google TV devices today, while Google offers the following instructions if you’re having other issues:
- From the Google TV home screen, select All settings.
- Tap Apps > See all apps > Show system apps.
- Tap Google TV > Clear data OK.
- Tap Force stop > OK.
- Repeat the process for the Ambient mode app. From the Google TV home screen, select All settings.
- Tap Apps > See all apps > Show system apps.
- Tap Ambient mode > Clear data > OK.
- Tap Force stop > OK.
- Press the home button on your Voice Remote.
- Select Settings > check if the home panel tile is visible.
- If the home panel tile doesn’t appear, wait 15-20 minutes for the tile to sync.
