Holiday Open House to showcase local businesses for seasonal shopping

MAYFIELD, Ky. — The Mayfield/Graves County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Holiday Open House from Friday, Nov. 8, through Sunday, Nov. 10, which showcases local businesses just in time for seasonal shopping.

Chamber executive director Katie McCord explained that the event promotes local commerce during a time of year with a high flow of purchases. All businesses in the area are invited to be advertised for the weekend by the chamber, regardless of membership.

McCord said Holiday Open House encourages the community to visit Mayfield and Graves County businesses for their holiday-related needs, rather than patronizing corporate chains or online retailers.

McCord described the slate of participating businesses as eclectic, including women’s and men’s boutiques, an RV dealership with outdoor items, furniture store with Christmas décor, and pharmacies with a gift selection.

She said they cater to a diverse customer base and their demands during the season, whether that is planning for festivities or especially tackling a gift list.

McCord stressed the importance of supporting local businesses, and said it boosts the county’s economy. She said that they maintain the area’s financial stability, continues development for preexisting institutions, and supports those looking to establish their roots.

McCord discussed others benefits of shopping locally for the holiday season. She said consumers could avoid the inconvenience of shipping delays and notifications, and simplify the process free of impersonal transactions.

McCord said Holiday Open House has become an eagerly anticipated tradition that incentivizes the involvement of the community and Purchase Area Development District, generating a positive turnout annually.

The first 250 shoppers who stop by the Commerce Center from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday will receive a Holiday Open House commemorative tote bag.

Eighteen participating businesses will offer special sales and discounts for the occasion. Shoppers can pick up reusable goodie bags also containing sales information, sponsored by CFSB, FNB Bank, Independence Bank and Regions Bank.

At each location, there will be entry slips to be eligible for prizes from the establishments, and the giveaway winners will be announced the following Monday in a live drawing.

McCord said holidays excite and unify the community, providing an opportunity to bolster its infrastructure through connective, themed events like Holiday Open House. She said the county will pivot from the Halloween-oriented Haunted Graves to Merry Mayfield, and celebrate the final months of the year with Christmas spirit.

As the country experiences a contentious presidential election, McCord said Holiday Open House and other events will be a respite from the polarizing climate.
