The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park has been ranked the top hotel in El Paso by U.S. News & World Report.
Plaza representatives were excited to share the news on social media.
“Thank you to our incredible guests and community for making us the city’s most beloved luxury destination. Thank you for being part of our story — we can’t wait to welcome you!,” stated the Plaza’s Facebook page.
U.S. News analyzed more than 30,000 hotels to find the best in the U.S.A., Europe, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean, based on reputation among travel experts, guest reviews, and hotel class ratings.
The magazine noted the following about the Plaza in its ranking:
“Along with a restaurant, this smoke-free hotel has a health club and a bar/lounge. WiFi in public areas is free. Other amenities include a 24-hour business center, a coffee shop/cafe, and valet parking,” it stated.
Plaza General Manager Adrian Gonzalez said the accolade is the latest recognition in a great year.
“We had an amazing year of recognition, from becoming the No. 1 hotel in El Paso on TripAdvisor, to being awarded with a Michelin Key, and named the number one hotel among the Independent Collection HHM portfolio on Medallia. With this latest accolade from U.S. News & World Report, as not only the best hotel locally, but in Texas where we are ranked No. 45 out of hundreds of hotels and No. 832 in the country out of thousands of properties, we are truly feeling honored at The Plaza Hotel,” he said in an email.
“These awards are not going unnoticed, as our loyal clientele is proud of our performance and happier than ever to continue favoring The Plaza Hotel for both personal and professional events. This prestige is also visible by our out-of-town clients, as they continue to refer to us as the place to stay when doing business in El Paso,” Gonzalez added.
Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park history
Businessman Conrad Hilton built the El Paso Hilton and helped launch what became one of the nation’s great hotel chains after he almost went bankrupt.
The 19-story hotel, which was El Paso’s tallest building in 1930, became a symbol of a progressing El Paso as Hilton wrote in his autobiography, “Be My Guest:” “A miracle of hope, a flag flown confidently in the face of adversity” according to an El Paso Times article in 2020.
The story stated that the Nov. 6, 1930 opening of the hotel drew about 15,000 people. Hilton called that number a “slight exaggeration.” However, he said, people came from all over Texas and New Mexico to not only see the new hotel, but to get reassurance at a time when “almost everyone was talking doom.”
Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park revitalization
The Plaza Hotel opened in June 2020. The 130-room, upscale, boutique hotel at 106 W. Mills Ave. and Oregon Street was renovated by El Paso billionaire Paul Foster, who has been working on revitalizing Downtown El Paso.
The hotel underwent a $78 million renovation according to a 2019 El Paso Times article. The renovation included an adjacent 541-car parking garage that was built.
