HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A brush fire that forced the evacuation of a West Oahu shopping center Friday afternoon is under control, the Honolulu Fire Department says.

HFD first responded to the call around 1:30 p.m. near Kapolei Parkway and Renton Road, close to Ka Makana Alii.

The blaze forced the evacuation of Ka Makana Alii, but the entrances have since reopened after HFD gave it the-all clear.

HFD officials said no homes were threatened and the evacuation of Varona Village was halted.

As of 2:45 p.m., the fire was 50% contained.

Hawaii News Now cameras showed flames and heavy smoke near the mall.

Southbound lanes of Kapolei Parkway remain closed from Ka Makana Alii, Honolulu police said.
