How U.S. News & World Report calculates ranking for best colleges list

U.S. News & World ReportĀ determinesĀ its annual best colleges list by evaluating nearly 1,500 colleges and universities using more than a dozen categories of “academic quality,” the publication said in aĀ release.

More than half of a school’s ranking is calculated based on outcome measures such as graduation rates and post-graduation earning rates, according to the release.

The rest of the score is calculated using data such as faculty salaries, student-to-faculty ratio and standardized test scores.
