Before his death, he owned or managed dozens of sites, including 15 hotels as part of his J Collection. 

Jaeger also had a desire to improve the city of New Orleans and purchased several long-blighted properties with plans to restore them. However, as many of the properties continued to languish, his critics questioned whether his ownership was delaying progress. 

In recent years, Jaeger began selling of many of his properties, especially as the city began to crack down on blight.
