Google and Apple Maps have officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America following an executive order by President Donald Trump.
Google announced it would make the change once the name was officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System, as ordered by Trump in January.
“As we announced two weeks ago and consistent with our longstanding practices, we’ve begun rolling out changes to reflect this update,” Google said in a Feb. 10 statement.

Apple followed suit and renamed the Gulf within 24 hours after Google began rolling out the change.
Google Maps users in the U.S. will see “Gulf of America,” when using the program while people in Mexico will see “Gulf of Mexico.”
“The names you see in the Maps app are based on your country location, which is determined by information from your phone’s operating system (e.g., iOS and Android), including your SIM, network, and locale,” Google’s statement read.
