“As a city, we want to serve all of our residents, and that includes every single person of every ability and every age,” Director of Communications Rachel Sonnier said. “We’re always trying to find ways to make either new events or our events that already occur more accessible and more fun for every age group and every person involved.”
Here’s a look ahead at the city’s calendar of events:
Dec. 1: Santa’s Arrival
This annual event marks the start of the holiday season in Kyle. Individuals can watch a tree lighting, take photos with Santa, enjoy music performed by local school choirs and bands, participate in a gingerbread house-making competition and get a head start on holiday shopping with local holiday market vendors.
- 4-9 p.m.
- Mary Kyle Hartson City Square Park, 101 S. Burleson St., Kyle
- Free
Dec. 1-25: 25 Days of Christmas
Throughout the month of December, the city of Kyle will have nightly holiday lights, Christmas music, and local vendors at Mary Kyle Hartson park. On Thursday date nights, guests can enjoy live music, food vendors with outdoor seating and professional photographers. Sonnier said Fridays are designed to get families out and about, having fun together. On Saturdays, guests can get started on their holiday shopping and find unique gifts from local vendors.
“For every dollar spent in Kyle at a local business, more of that money stays in the economy than if you spend it at a big, national chain,” Sonnier said. “We like to support our local businesses where we can, because they’re also the kind of businesses that will turn around and support local events and local outreaches and charities.”
Dec. 7: Grinch on the Green
This family-friendly event will feature music, entertainment, food vendors and holiday safety tips from the Kyle Police Department. Attendees will learn how to prevent porch pirates and vehicle break-ins. The event will also include music, entertainment, and market and food vendors. In addition, the San Marcos regional animal shelter will be at the event with an adoption booth.
- 5:30-9 p.m.
- Mary Kyle Hartson Park, 101 S. Burleson St., Kyle
- Free
Dec. 12-14: Santa Rides in Kyle
The Kyle Police Department and City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department are partnering together to bring holiday magic to neighborhoods in Kyle. Santa will ride in a caravan of decorated school buses and fire trucks, and children will have the opportunity to wave and see Santa as he visits designated neighborhoods.
Dec. 20: Winter Wonderland for All Abilities Dance
This free dance is open to people of all ages and abilities, and features live music, giveaways and prizes. The dance is a great opportunity for individuals and families to come together and celebrate the holiday season in a fun and inclusive environment.
In addition to the festive events, the city will also be decorating public spaces with holiday lights, creating a magical atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. With a variety of events and activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this holiday season.
