Granite secures $78m California infrastructure project contract

Must read

Granite has secured a $78m contract from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for an infrastructure project in Orange County, California, US.

The contract value, sourced from state and federal budgets, will be reflected in Granite’s first-quarter committed and awarded projects of 2025.

The project’s focal point is the demolition and reconstruction of a 320ft-long concrete bridge.

Designed to enhance the State Route 55 and State Route 91 (SR 55/91) corridor, the new bridge aims to reduce weaving and merging between ramps, which is expected to improve traffic flow and safety significantly.

Furthermore, the project encompasses the construction of retaining walls, sound walls, and both asphalt and concrete paving.

It will also feature upgrades to storm drainage and electrical systems, promoting modern, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure.

This initiative represents the first of three segmented projects intended to enhance the SR 55/91 connector and alleviate congestion in the SR 55 and SR 91 transition corridor.

Construction is set to commence in April 2025 with an anticipated completion date of October 2027.

Granite vice-president of regional operations Scott McArthur said: “This project represents the largest local Caltrans project that Granite’s Los Angeles/Orange County (LAOC) team has captured to date.

“Additionally, this project allows Granite to continue to foster our two-time partnering award-winning relationship with District 12 and will also improve our ability to capturing future opportunities with alternative delivery projects in the LA and Orange County market areas.”

Last month, Granite was awarded a nearly $88m contract by Caltrans to improve a section of Ortega Highway SR-74.
