(KNOX) – Infrastructure is needed for a project in Grand Forks.

Assistant city Engineer Ed Liberman says sanitary sewers are part of the work scheduled to be done.

“This is the large industrial development, immediately west of Interstate 29 and north of Gateway Drive. It will develop about 386 acres,” Liberman says.

Nearly two years ago Grand Forks City Council created a special assessment district for the planned development.

“The last time this came before the city council was in June and July of 2023, when council created special assessment districts,” Liberman says.

The development is north of U.S. Highway 2, bounded by Interstate 29 on the east and North 55th Street to the west. The developer, Simonson Station Stores, is proposing this public infrastructure be designed and constructed through special assessment, to be accepted by the City of Grand Forks for operation and maintenance.

Grand Forks City Council approved the project.
