Gov. Ron DeSantis announces $122 million for rural infrastructure

LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) – Governor Ron DeSantis announced more than $122 million in rewards for small county governments and rural municipalities across the state. in Lake City on Tuesday.

The governor spoke at 2 p.m. at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Lake City District Office on South Marion Avenue.

The rewards were given through the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) and the Small County Resurfacing Assistance Program (SCRAP). Of the total funding, one-third of the funds will go toward rural communities impacted by hurricanes Idalia and Debby.

The following counties in our area will receive funding: $4.25 million for Bradford County, $2.98 million for Columbia County, $3.66 million for Suwannee County, $2.5 million for Levy County and $2.19 million for Gilchrist County.

FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue, Shane Morgan from Columbia County and Desiree Mills, chair of Levy County, joined DeSantis at the event. Officials from Suwanee, Levy, Madison and Columbia were also in attendance.

“Rural counties face unique infrastructure challenges, so we are ensuring they have the resources needed for long-term success,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “These investments will improve infrastructure and attract new businesses to Florida’s rural communities.”
