Google’s AI Tool ‘ALU’ to Empower Indian Farmers

Google is set to introduce ALU ( Agricultural Landscape Understanding), a tool that provides farmers with Agricultural Information to help boost crop yields.

The AI platform will provide information at a microscopic level by using high-resolution satellite imagery and AI/ML for boundaries and the extent to which preparation can be done for drought, irrigation and market access. It is a limited availability tool aimed at making agricultural practices data-driven.

The announcement was made at the recent Google I/O Connect in Bengaluru.

According to Livemint, The Agricultural Landscape Understanding tool will also give detailed information on crop type, field size, availability of water, and access to roads and markets. It is built on Google Cloud with collaborations from Anthro Krishi team and India’s digital AgriStack. The use of Agriculture Landscape information is already being done by companies likeNinjacart, Skymet, Team-Up, IIT Bombay and the Government of India.
