Google Will Allow Users To Create Their Own Chatbots For Entertainment Purposes, Including Chatting with Celebrities

Must read

While Google Gems is said to be a tailored version of Gemini to help cater to specific tasks and different user needs, the company is working on a new AI chatbot project that would have the capability to mimic celebrities, and users can create their own custom chatbot. The attempt at a personalized chatbot could be Google’s effort to match up with Meta’s Celebrity AI chatbot.

Google’s new AI Project would let users create their own chatbot and might integrate with YouTube in the future

As reported by The Information, Google Labs is working on a new Gemini-powered model that would help users create their own chatbot or could mirror celebrities. A custom-built chatbot could be created by providing details such as physical appearance and personality. The purpose of this capability would be simply entertainment where users can engage in conversation with a character of their preference.

The report further states that Google might partner with social media influencers to create chatbots modeled after them. Although the AI project might initially be released as a standalone feature, the company might consider integrating it with YouTube sometime down the road.

The tech giant’s growing interest in personalized chatbots could be an attempt to take on Meta’s Celebrity AI chatbots and Character.ai version of the customizable chatbot service. Meta’s AI capabilities can mimic famous celebrities like Snoop Dogg, and Character.ai allows one to create TV characters and take on their response style.

While this would be Google’s attempt to give a similar experience, users have shown lukewarm interest in these types of chatbots. Whether Google would be able to set itself apart and be able to gain more engagement than the competition is yet to be seen. From a logistic perspective, the company needs to provide the experience through phones so users can have a hassle-free, convenient method of engagement.

Google might opt for a Progressive Web App (PWA) experience that will give users access to web apps and the experience of a native app, making it easy for users to engage with the chatbots. This project by the company is said to be significantly different from Gems, which is a custom version of Gemini that caters to specific requirements and would come with some pre-made sets for all users.

Google has not confirmed the new AI project or its release date, but it would be safe to say that it will be first tested in Google Labs before the experimental product is ready to be rolled out.
