Google TV has introduced an update to its Freeplay app, which now offers an improved interface and new free channels. Although these channels remain available only in the US, their integration directly into the Google TV home screen provides convenient access to content.
Here’s What We Know
Previously, users were able to view free channels through a simple interface that only allowed them to stream programmes and view the channel list. The new version of the Freeplay app has an updated screen for selecting and sorting channels, including categories such as popular, recently watched, and different genres of shows.
Particularly useful is the ‘Favourites’ feature, which allows users to add favourite channels for quicker access. Users can simply click on the channel name in the guide to set a favourite.
The changes only affect the Freeplay shortcut on the home screen. Free and paid channels from YouTube TV can still be accessed through the Live tab of Google TV.
The new update is already being rolled out, but may be inconsistent: some devices are showing the new app, while others are still displaying the old version.
