Google Translate «upgraded» with artificial intelligence — with explanation of grammar, regional features and change of translation styles

Must read

Soon, Google Translate may receive new artificial intelligence features that will allow users to interact with translations and get additional context (cultural and regional, in particular).

The new features were spotted in the program code by the website Android Authoritywhich states that soon Translate will receive a new button that will offer users «Ask the program for further actions» with suggestions for changing the translation style, paraphrasing, showing regional variants, etc. Let’s talk about each feature separately:

Information about the translation

In fact, Google Translate will be able to provide you with additional context to the translation with nuances and explanations of why the text was translated in the way it was.

Translation tone and styles

Currently, there are several styles (although it is not known whether all of them will be included in the public version): official, simplified, and casual; alternative translations, paraphrases, regional versions, etc. are also available.

Feedback and audio

Users can listen to the translated text to familiarize themselves with the correct pronunciation by clicking the speaker icon. In addition, there are «Like» and «Dislike» buttons to provide feedback on the translation quality.

Other information

This Google Translate feature provides additional notes on the cultural specifics of the target language, explains grammar, and suggests regional variations, helping users understand how translations may differ depending on context or location.

The authors of Android Authority note that they have managed to activate the feature in version 9.3.78.731229477.7 of Google Translate, but it has not yet been widely launched. You can watch a demonstration in the video.

As a reminder, last year Google added 110 new languages to its translator (previously it supported a total of 133 languages, so this is a great progress for the service) — including Crimean Tatar.
