Google to Chrome users: Delete these 16 popular extensions right now – The Times of India

Must read

Google Chrome users are being urged to uninstall 16 popular extensions recently identified as security risks. The affected extensions, which include tools for screen capture, ad blocking, and emoji keyboards, have been found to inject harmful scripts into browsers, potentially compromising user data and facilitating search-engine fraud.
The warning comes after GitLab Threat Intelligence reported that these extensions, which collectively have over 3.2 million users, were hijacked by a prolific “threat actor.” The malicious updates allowed hackers to steal user data and engage in fraudulent activities by injecting unauthorised advertisements and manipulating web traffic.

The compromised extensions include:

  • Blipshot
  • Emojis (Emoji Keyboard)
  • Color Changer for YouTube
  • Video Effects for YouTube and Audio Enhancer
  • Themes for Chrome and YouTube
  • Picture in Picture
  • Mike Adblock für Chrome
  • Super Dark Mode
  • Emoji Keyboard Emojis for Chrome
  • Adblocker for Chrome (NoAds)
  • Adblock for You
  • Adblock for Chrome
  • Nimble Capture
  • KProxy
  • Page Refresh
  • Wistia Video Downloader
  • WAToolkit

Users who have installed any of these extensions are advised to delete them immediately and run antivirus software to scan for potential malware or other viruses. The extensions have already been removed from the Chrome Web Store, but users must manually delete them from their browsers to ensure their security.
