Google Slashes Pixel 9 Pro Price In New Holiday Sale

Must read

This story was updated on December 16th with new Google pricing.

Google has slashed the price of the Pixel 9 series in the company’s first major sale since the Black Friday shopping period last month.

The discounts are similar to Google’s Black Friday pricing, with the exception of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which has received an even bigger price drop than two weeks ago. The Search company has also upped trade-in prices.

  • Pixel 9 – $649, $150 off
  • Pixel 9 Pro – $849, $150 off
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold – $1,499, $300 off
  • Pixel 8a – $399, $100 off

These are good prices for Google’s 2024 tech, particularly the Pixel 9 Pro discount. Read my review here. But they don’t match up to Amazon’s cheapest prices for the 2024 Pixel just a couple of weeks ago.

There is also no discount for the Pixel 8 range. For that, you will have to go to Best Buy, which is selling the base Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro $200 and $350 less respectively.

Google’s trade-in prices have been temporarily enhanced, too. As ever, Google is the only place you will get good prices for older Pixel phones.

  • Pixel 7 Pro – $540
  • Pixel 6 Pro – $450
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra – $300
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – $360
  • Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max – $330
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max – $635

Google saves its best prices for realistic trade-ins (a couple of years old) for Apple handsets. Trade-in values for Samsung and other Android phones don’t stand out, but if you have a Pixel phone this is the only place you will get a decent offer for it.

I expect the Pixel 7 Pro trade-in price to remain fairly stable considering Google recently extended software support for it. You can see the difference between Google’s trade-in pricing between a phone that is still supported, such as the Pixel 6 Pro ($450), and a phone that recently fell out of the update cycle, like the Pixel 5 ($245).

If you are on an extreme budget, the Pixel 7 Pro might offer the perfect balance between a flagship Google experience, remaining software support, and price. Check out my story on that here.

Update December 16th: The Google U.K store has joined-in with the holiday deals, albeit with slightly less impressive discounts. British shoppers can get a free Fitbit Versa 4 with every Pixel 9 Pro purchase, which is worth £179.99 ($228.40). Google actually discounts the Pixel 9 Pro too if it is bought with the Fitbit, which knocks a total of £229.99 ($291.85) off.

The final price is (£949 /$1204.24) is cheaper than just buying the Pixel 9 by itself, so taking the smartwatch is a no brainer. You can always sell it on and save even more money.

Google has also upped its trade-in prices. As ever, the company’s best prices are reserved for Pixel phones. It will give you £309 ($392.11) for the Pixel 7 Pro, which isn’t bad. But the company’s valuations crater for older handsets, such as the Pixel 6 Pro, which it will pay £144 ($182.73) for.

Elsewhere, Google is also giving away a £100 store credit with every Pixel Watch 3 purchase and £50 ($63.45) store credit to all Pixel Buds Pro 2 buyers.
