Google Signs Another 5 PPA’s with ENGIE for 118MW of Renewable Power in Belgium – ESG News

Google and ENGIE have deepened their collaboration with five new Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (cPPAs), providing Google’s digital infrastructure in Belgium with over 118 MW of renewable power.

Google’s Green Ambitions

Google targets net-zero emissions and 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030. The new cPPAs with ENGIE will deliver power from four new onshore wind farms in Belgium, totaling 26 MW. An additional agreement extends a current 92 MW wind park’s operation by eight years.

Frederic Descamps, Google’s Data Center Lead in Belgium, stated, “Sustainability has been one of Google’s core values since its founding. Our partnership with ENGIE supports our ambitious clean energy goals, enabling us to make a positive impact in every grid we operate in.

ENGIE’s Leadership and Future Plans

In 2023, ENGIE solidified its position as a leader in the PPA market, selling 2.4 GW of green electricity to industries and large consumers. The company concluded 34 deals across six markets, uniquely offering PPAs for solar, onshore wind, and offshore wind technologies.

Vincent Verbeke, CEO of ENGIE Belgium, emphasized, “Partnering with tech giants like Google, we support the economic feasibility of new renewable projects while aiding energy-intensive industries in their carbon-free energy transition.

Strategic Energy Transition
