People are shopping more in July than they used to thanks to deals days, which Amazon made popular through its annual Prime Day sale. A survey of 1,017 people conducted by Ipsos for Google (May 31 – June 2, 2024) found that 44% of shoppers said summer deal days prompt them to shop more than they normally would.
Google also shared that in recent years, online searches for “deals” have spiked in mid-July, surpassing search interest in “vacation.”
To help shoppers, Google said “Shop deals” on Search now features a fresh deals carousel, showcasing the most relevant promotions and markdowns from the last 24 hours in electronics, apparel, toys, and more.
It also introduced a “Member Pricing” feature: “See member-pricing on products you’re considering, from retailers like BestBuy, Petco and Minted. At a glance, you can see how much a product costs regularly plus its price across multiple membership programs – helping you make the most informed decision.”
In a blog post this week, Google shared shopping tips and additional findings from its survey. It found that 51% of surveyed shoppers who had made a purchase during deals day last year said finding the item on sale was the biggest motivator. The second biggest motivator: early-bird holiday shopping (20%).
