The upcoming Google Pixel Watch 3 is shaping up to be the company’s most advanced smartwatch to date, with features designed to enhance fitness routines and everyday life. Google has put a strong emphasis on performance, calling it its “most advanced fitness tracker yet.”
Two sizes with better screens and a sleek design
The Pixel Watch 3 will be available in two sizes—41mm and 45mm—catering to different wrist preferences. With over 16% smaller bezels than its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 2, you’re getting a lot more screen space to work with. The 41mm model now offers 10% more active screen area, while the 45mm version boasts a significant 40% increase. This makes reading messages, navigating with Google Maps, or tracking your workout metrics easier.
This new model’s brightness ranges from as low as 1 nit for the always-on display up to a dazzling 2,000 nits, making it readable in any lighting condition. Additionally, the refresh rate is adaptive, adjusting between 1Hz and 60Hz to provide a smooth experience without draining the battery.
The Pixel Watch 3 offers abundant connectivity options, including Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. However, the LTE version only supports 4G connectivity.
Under the hood, both sizes of the Pixel Watch 3 feature a Qualcomm SW5100 Cortex-M33 co-processor, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. This ensures that your smartwatch runs smoothly, whether you’re checking messages or tracking a workout.
The Pixel Watch 3 also offers a variety of stylish options to suit your taste. Both sizes are available in Matte Black Aluminium with an Obsidian band and Polished Silver Aluminium with a Porcelain band. If you opt for the 45mm model, you’ll also have the choice of a Matte Hazel Aluminium case with a Hazel band. The 41mm version adds two additional colours: Champagne Gold Aluminium with a Hazel band and Polished Silver Aluminium with a Rose Quartz band.
Elevating your fitness routine
The Pixel Watch 3 won’t disappoint if you’re serious about fitness. It has a comprehensive running program to help you plan, perform, and progress. You can create a variety of running routines, such as timed warm-ups and cool-downs, target pace, heart rate zones, or even interval training. While you run, the watch provides real-time guidance with haptic and audio cues, so you always know when to speed up or slow down.
The new running dashboard in the Fitbit app gives you detailed insights into your weekly mileage, personal records, and workout analysis. This helps you track your progress over time and stay motivated.
Thanks to Google’s deep app integration, managing your fitness routine is even more seamless. You can control your music, adjust the volume, or even change songs right from your workout screen, thanks to Bluetooth 5.3 support for Bluetooth LE Audio, which uses less power and helps conserve battery life.
The Pixel Watch 3 takes a holistic approach to health tracking. It features an upgraded heart rate sensor that provides more accurate readings during your workouts. The watch also uses advanced motion sensing and machine learning to analyse your running form, including metrics like cadence, stride length, and vertical oscillation.
The smartwatch’s “Recovery,” “Readiness,” “Cardio Load,” and “Target Load” metrics help you manage your fitness without overtraining. These features are available without a subscription and offer personalised insights based on your heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep patterns.
Google is also introducing Fitbit Premium, a subscription service that offers additional health insights and personalised workouts. The Pixel Watch 3 comes with a six-month trial, giving you plenty of time to decide if it’s right for you.
To keep everything running smoothly, the Pixel Watch 3 features a battery that’s 35% larger than its predecessor. In Battery Saver mode, the watch offers up to 36 hours of battery life. The watch also charges 20% faster than the Pixel Watch 2, ensuring it’s ready to go when you are.
In emergencies, a new Loss of Pulse Detection feature automatically calls emergency services if you’re unresponsive, even if you’re alone.
