Google’s marketing team has done a good job of marketing the Pixel in the past, doing plenty of sponsorships with basketball and soccer (football), including sponsoring the NBA All-Star Game in San Francisco next year. Now the Google Pixel has become the “official smartphone of the Australian Open“.
For Google, this isn’t just about branding, the search giant is also using this partnership to highlight some Pixel features. Like Gemini, Circle to Search, Magic Eraser, and Magic Editor. In fact, at the Australian Open, Google built a real-life Pixel Studio, where you can experience these features and the Pixel 9 Pro first-hand.
The Google Pixel Studio will be open from January 12 through January 26, 2025, from 10 AM to 7 PM. So those heading to the Australian Open can experience the Pixel 9 Pro and other Pixel features in person. Google will have people there to demo the features and explain how things work, for those that might not be familiar with the Pixel series.
Google will also have Epic Pixel Deals during the Australian Open
Additionally, to celebrate the Australian Open, Google will have “Epic Pixel Deals” going on starting on January 12. The Google Store mentions sales and enhanced trade-ins for the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. There will be other Pixel deals available as well, which we’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to see what they might be.
Google has done these partnerships before for Pixel as well as YouTube TV, and they seem to really pay good dividends for the company. This year, Google has really expanded its market share quite a bit, as the Pixel 9 series has been deemed a hit. It’s done well, particularly in the US, which is typically a majority iPhone market. It’ll be interesting to see how this partnership with the Australian Open works for Google, particularly in Australia.
