Key Highlights

  • Google Maps introduces speed limit and speedometer features for iPhone and CarPlay users.
  • The new update helps drivers avoid speeding fines by displaying road speed limits.
  • Gradual rollout means iPhone users will soon see these features on their Google Maps app.

After years of Android users enjoying the convenience of speed limit indicators on Google Maps, iPhone and Apple CarPlay users are finally getting the same feature. According to a report by Tech Crunch, Google Maps is rolling out a global update that includes a speedometer and speed limit indicators for iPhones and CarPlay.

New Features Explained

The speedometer appears in the bottom left corner of the screen while navigating, displaying the vehicle’s speed. What makes this feature particularly useful is that Google Maps will also show the speed limit of the road you are driving on. This helps drivers stay within legal speed limits and avoid speeding fines, which have become common in the Delhi-NCR region.

Additionally, the speedometer changes colors when users exceed the speed limit. If a driver is speeding, the indicator turns bright red, providing a clear visual cue to slow down.

Gradual Rollout

While the feature is gradually rolling out, it may take a few days for it to become available for all iPhone users. We checked on our iPhone’s Google Maps app, but the feature wasn’t visible yet.

How to Activate the Speedometer and Speed Limit Features

Activating these features on Google Maps is simple. Follow these steps:

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of Google Maps installed.
  2. Tap on your profile picture in the Google Maps app.
  3. Navigate to Settings > Navigation > Map display.
  4. Toggle on “Show speed limits” and “Show speedometer” based on your preference.

The introduction of this feature on iPhones is expected to enhance user experience significantly. By providing real-time speed data and speed limit notifications, Google Maps helps drivers avoid speeding fines and promotes safer driving habits.

With this new update, iPhone and CarPlay users can now benefit from features that Android users have enjoyed since 2019.
