Google will develop AI in Poland to support the country’s energy and cybersecurity sectors, according to a new memorandum.
Google and Poland on Thursday signed a memorandum for developing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country’s energy, cybersecurity, and other sectors.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, said the company is dedicating $5 million (€4.8 million) over the next five years to expand training programmes and increase digital skills for one million young Poles.
Google will also be getting AI involved in Poland’s strategic sectors, Pichai said.
Launched in 2014, Poland is already Google’s biggest engineering hub, Pichai continued, counting more than 2,000 employees.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the plans will increase Poland’s security and will contribute to the country’s economic development.
Earlier this week, Tusk said Google and Microsoft are among several businesses that pledged to invest roughly 650 billion zlotys (€156 billion) in Poland in 2025.
Tusk also invited Google to contribute to the deregulating efforts in Poland that aim to cut red tape and regulations and give businesses more space for development.
