Google Home app support for Nest Cam IQ, Hub Max camera rolling out

Must read

The Google Home Public Preview Program is now rolling out support for the Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Outdoor (2017), as well as the Nest Hub Max (2019).

Google touts how “you can now transfer all Nest Cams launched as early as 2015,” with that list also including the Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 1st gen), Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 1st gen), and Nest Hello

Now, for the first time you can manage all your Nest Cams in a single app – no more switching between the Nest and Home apps.

This includes the ability to access the updated camera history and other settings, as well as quickly switch between the timeline and event list. Other features now possible include:

  • Quickly view live streams from all of your Nest cameras in your Favorites tab
  • Control thousands of devices from your favorite brands from one app
  • Create powerful automations with your cameras
  • View your Nest cameras on phones, tablets, TVs, and the web: home.google.com

However, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Outdoor’s Supersight close-up tracking view is not currently available in the Google Home app. Owners will see “prompts in both the Nest app and in the Google Home app under the Favorites Tab with instructions,” as well as device settings, to migrate.

We’ll start to roll out access for users this week, so be on the lookout for the prompt. If you change your mind and want to continue using the Nest app, you will have the ability to reverse transfer your Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Outdoor devices.

For Nest Hub Max (6.5MP with 127-degree FOV) owners:

Learn how to transfer your device by referring to the Help Center for more information. Once you transfer your Nest Hub Max, you won’t be able to reverse transfer your device back to the Nest app.
