Google Drive document scanner rolling out automatic ‘Enhance’ on Android

Must read

Announced alongside December’s Pixel Feature Drop, Google Drive is rolling out automatic “Enhance” to its mobile document scanner.

Last year, Google Drive redesigned its document scanner with a prominent small FAB shortcut. There’s a custom camera with Auto capture mode and revamped editor. Tools let you Crop & Rotate, apply Filters, and Clean (to erase stains, fingers, and other marks). Since then, Google has introduced saving in JPEG and a black & white filter.

The latest tool is Enhance on the Preview screen after capturing an image. Tapping the sparkle icon in the corner will “perform actions like white balance correction, shadow removal, contrast enrichment, auto sharpening, light improvement, and more.”

“No manual editing needed” is the goal, and Enhance works on receipts, documents, ID cards, and more. You can see a before and after in the example below, with the enhanced version being entirely flat.

Google on Friday said Enhance in Drive’s document scanner is rolling out now with full availability in the coming weeks for all “Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.”
