The comparisons between Google Maps and Apple Maps are not new. The chatter became dominant when the latter offered its iOS 17 update, which allowed Apple users to download and use the maps offline. Netizens are now drawing a detailed street-view comparison between the GPS and navigation services provided by the tech giants.

Several people took to social media and created a buzz around Apple Maps posing a challenge to Google Maps, a consumer application that single-handled dominates the navigation market. While some are favouring the legacy brand, yet others are opting for Apple for its “better viewing quality.”

“The difference in details on Apple Maps vs. Google Maps is insane,” a user wrote on X (formerly Twitter) with pictures of maps available on both apps. The post was viewed by almost 9.3 million users at the time this news was published.

Another user remarked, “a comparison between ‘Street View’ and ‘Look Around’. The difference in performance and image quality is insane,” while sharing the clips of street views on Apple and Google Maps.

The debate online has been called ‘Google Maps vs. Apple Maps. Among those participating in it have been sharing a worldwide edition of the debate. “Apple Maps: the underdog that’s winning over users with its accuracy, even in Japan. Goodbye, Google Maps?” one more user asked.

Despite a grand entry, Apple Maps struggled to make a mark in the navigation space. So much so, that Tim Cook, the company’s CEO reportedly issued an apology along with a piece of advice for users to operate on other competing apps available within the industry.

Apple Maps had in the past faced criticism for moving “too slowly,” with a limited database. The rival Google Maps excels in business and also provides reviews apart from mere information.

When looking for company details and customer reviews of eateries, shops, parks, and other locations on a map, Google Maps is a great resource. Thus far, the greatest option for searching and retrieving information has been Google Maps.

However, those who wish to maintain privacy have chosen Apple Maps over Google Maps. When backing up search and location information to iCloud, Apple Maps does not share this data unless you specifically agree to do so.
