CHAUTAUQUA — Two intrepid golfers took on the challenge of a golf marathon at Chautauqua Golf Club on Wednesday to raise funds for the New York State Golf Association Foundation Scholarship Program.
Brady Fye and Callen Barron each completed 100 holes, averaging about 1 hour, 10 minutes per 18 holes.
The NYSGA Foundation is the 501(c)(3) arm of the New York State Golf Association. Its scholarship program grants awards to employees of member golf clubs across NY State. Recipients must be in good academic standing, be in at least their second season working at a member golf club and have a financial need. Once approved, scholarships are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Fye and Barron are both CGC employees and are recipients of NYSGA Foundation Scholarships. Fye is in his fifth season working on the greens crew and Barron is in his third year in the pro shop and cart barn. Fye earned an associate degree from Jamestown Community College this year and, later this month, will start at Hilbert College in Batavia, majoring in cybersecurity. Barron will be a senior at Mercyhurst University in Erie, majoring in finance.
This was the third annual golf marathon at CGC. The event has been a successful fundraiser for local scholarship awards due to the generosity of Chautauqua members.
