INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police on Monday said they found a girl fatally stabbed on the city’s east side near Arsenal Tech High School.
Online police reports show the stabbing happened around 9:15 a.m. in the 400 block of North Randolph Street. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department later said a neighbor called 911 after seeing the incident take place.
That block is in a neighborhood between East Michigan and East New York streets, just south of the high school.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived and located the girl with stab wounds outside the home. She died at the scene.
IMPD Ofc. Tommy Thompson says detectives were canvassing the area and speaking with witnesses to learn what led up to the stabbing. IMPD did not provide any suspect information.
Thompson also asks the public to be mindful of the girl’s family following this tragedy and to “think about that victim.”
“We gotta work through our issues if we have these disturbances and we continue to resort to violence instead of walking away from the situation,” he said. “It comes on us as a society to do better. This family should never have to be going through this.”
IMPD asks anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers. “Justice is brought to the people, to the victims, we’ve had in the past because of community members coming forward,” Thompson said.
News 8 reached out Indianapolis Public Schools for comment, who later confirmed Arsenal Tech and two other schools are on lockdown.
Today, Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) has placed Arsenal Technical High School, Theodore Potter School 74, and H. L. Harshman Middle School campuses on lockedown due to an investigation of a fatal stabbing near these schools.
