George Shumaker
George Shumaker, 80, passed away August 11, 2024, after an illness, at home, surrounded by family.
George, also known as Alex, graduated from Brocton Central High School in 1962, and worked as a machinist, owning several businesses and eventually transitioned into process design.
He enjoyed traveling and visited Japan, Hawai’i, Ireland, Scotland, England and Iceland. He also enjoyed skiing, sailing and boating, and was never without at least one boat.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Winnifred Shumaker and his former wife, Mary Frank Shumaker.
He is survived by his sisters Janine Scaccia and Edith Sullivan, his daughters Karen (Phillip) Oliver of Sanford, ME, and Susan (Brian) McGrath of North East, PA, grandchildren John and Matt Oliver and Kaitlynn and Michael McGrath, and great granddaughter Amarith Oliver.
Friends are invited to call at W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 South Lake Street, North East on Friday, August 16 from 6 – 8pm, A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 17, at 11am.
