PENSACOLA, Fla. — Florida Power and Light is seeking rate increases each year from 2026 to 2029.

The utility detailed the request in a letter to the Florida Public Service Commission.

FPL says they intend to ask for increases of about $1.55 billion in 2026, and $930 million in 2027.

They also mentioned unspecified increases in 2028 and 2029.

FPL says it’s needed due to a boom in new accounts, citing the costs of building new infrastructure to support the increased demand.

The company says it also needs to recover the costs of building and operating additional solar and battery projects.

FPL says the typical residential customer would see their bill increase by about 2.5 percent a year from January 2025 through 2029.
