Flyp Asks for Damages Retrial After $12 Million Win Over Google

Google LLC should face a retrial on damages caused by Google Voice’s unauthorized incorporation of Flypsi Inc.’s patented internet calling features because a confused Texas jury’s award wasn’t big enough, Flypsi told a Texas court.

Flypsi—a telecommunications software firm that does business as Flyp—said the $12 million lump-sum damages federal jurors awarded in February don’t compensate it for the internet giant’s continued infringment of five patents covering various incoming- and outgoing-call technologies. Flyp said neither side’s lawyers explained the concepts of “lump sum” or “running royalty” to jurors.
