John and Beverly Ruska of Sheridan were more than pleased when they received two photographs from their daughter Kirsten, who lives in Kansas City, Mo. The photographs were of a family of flickers (who are woodpeckers) at a feeder in their backyard, As Beverly said, she never has had these birds at her feeder — let alone what looks like a family. One of the photos here, shows an adult parent feeding a young. Flickers seem to prefer eating insects, especially ants and are usually seen feeding on the ground and under trees. The food seen here in the feeder is a mix of nyjer seed and cracked sunflower seed.
